Ysabel Ortega shares what her 'Slay' character taught her: 'Pwede kang humingi ng tulong'

Ysabel Ortega offers a different side of herself in her character, Yana, in GMA Network’s first Viu Original series, “Slay.”

On Wednesday’s media conference for “Slay” at the Luxent Hotel in Quezon City, Ysabel shared her role in the murder-mystery series taught her there is no shame in asking for help.

“I feel most empowered when I recognize that there are people willing to help me,” she said.

Ysabel also opened up about being an only child and being unable to lean on others when times get tough.

“Of course, my mom is always there for me, my family is always there for me, pero 'pag only child ka, i-t-try mo lagpasan ‘yung isang problema sa buhay mo by yourself," she said.

“And that’s what I love about my character. Naging revelation din siya for myself na pwede kang humingi ng tulong.”

Ysabel also acknowledged her fellow women co-stars, Julie Anne San Jose, Gabbi Garcia, and Mikee Quintos.

“I also feel very empowered when I’m with these girls kasi ‘yung strength nila as women, nakatulong din sa akin,” she said.

“And I learn so much from them, not just as an actor but as a woman,” she added.

Slay” is set to air on GMA Prime beginning on March 24, 9:25 p.m. It also streams on Viu Philippines.
