Jellie Aw to pursue charges vs Jam Ignacio despite apology
Businessman Jam Ignacio on Friday appeared before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to address allegations that he had physically abused his fiancé, vlogger and disc jockey Jellie Aw.
According to John Consulta’s ''24 Oras'' report, Aw and Ignacio arrived separately at the NBI office, where Ignacio provided his statement.
Authorities did not arrest him, as the incident occurred some time ago, said NBI Director Jaime Santiago.
“Matagal nang nangyari ang kaso, di na appropriate for warrantless arrest, di ko siya aarestuhin but then dapat malaman niya na yung crime na nacommit niya ay public crime we have to file it in the prosecutor’s office, bahala na ang piskal paano titimbangin ang ebidensiyang aming isasampa,” Santiago said.
(The incident happened a while back, so a warrantless arrest is no longer appropriate. However, he must understand that the crime he committed is a public crime. We will file the case with the prosecutor’s office, which will assess our evidence.)
“Kung magkakasundo man sila ni Jellie, wala na kami doon, sa piskal na sila magusap,” he added.
(If they reconcile, that will be up to them. Our role ends there, and they will have to discuss it with the prosecutor.)
Ignacio earlier asked for forgiveness from Aw and her loved ones. He also said the incident stemmed from a simple misunderstanding.
Although she has forgiven Ignacio, Aw said that she will still pursue the case against him.
“Noong una pa lang po napatawad ko na si Jam pero tutuloy ko pa rin yung kaso,” said Aw.
(I have forgiven Jam from the start, but I will still pursue the case.)
In an exclusive interview with GMA Integrated News, Aw responded to Ignacio’s public apology and said that his actions should not be condoned.
“Hindi puwede yung napuno lang siya. Paano kung pinagbigyan ko siya ng second chance? 'Pag napuno siya ulit sa akin, gagawin niya ulit yun. Mas grabe pa,” said Aw.
(Feeling overwhelmed is not an excuse. What if I give him a second chance, and he gets overwhelmed again? He might do it again, maybe even worse.)
Previously, Ignacio had stated that he wanted to go ahead with the wedding, but Aw said it was no longer possible.
“Wala na pong kasal na magaganap, di na matutuloy ang mga napag-usapan po namin dahil po sa nangyari. Respeto na lang sa magulang ko kasi sobrang na-trauma din ang mama ko, gabi-gabi siya umiiyak, di ko kaya, siya na lang ang natitira sa akin,” she said.
(There will be no wedding. All of our plans have been scrapped because of what happened. Out of respect for my parents—especially my mother, who has been deeply traumatized, crying every night—I can’t go through with it. She’s the only one I have.) — Sherylin Untalan/VBL, GMA Integrated News
