Marian Rivera grateful as 'Balota' reigns as Netflix's #1 movie in PH

“Balota” is No. 1 on Netflix!

Since the Kapuso film became available for streaming on Netflix last Friday, “Balota” has been trending again.

As of writing, the Marian Rivera starrer hit the No. 1 spot in Philippines movies on the streaming platform giant.

On Instagram Stories, Marian expressed her gratitude for yet another success of “Balota.”

She shared a screenshot of the trending list on Netflix where “Balota” was shown on the No. 1 spot and wrote, “Salamat po!”

Directed by Kip Oebanda, “Balota” premiered at Cinemalaya 2024 and had a nationwide theatrical release with new cuts in October.

It follows the story of a land-grabbing tycoon and a former male sexy actor locked in a tight race for the mayoral seat of a small town. When violence erupts, a teacher runs into the forest with a ballot box containing the last copy of the election results.

Marian’s role in the film as Teacher Emmy earned her her first-ever Best Actress award at the Cinemalaya Film Festival. She shared the award with Gabby Padilla. —Hermes Joy Tunac/KG, GMA Integrated News
