Jean Garcia on being iconic for sampalan scenes: 'Nahihiya din ako'
Jean Garcia is so iconic for her sampalan scenes that plenty of actors actually want to be on her chopping block.
Following the script reading of the “Widows’ War” finale, the veteran actress told GMA News Online that she never knows how to react when colleagues and fans praise her slaps, and say that being slapped by her is an honor.
“Syempre, ako, nahihiya din ako diba,” Jean said.
“Kumbaga trabaho lang din naman, wala namang personalan. Pinapagawa lang din sa amin,” she added.
Jean also stressed the importance of "safe na pagsampal."
“’Yung pisngi lang talaga, hindi tatamaan dito sa jaw, ‘wag tamaan sa ears ganyan kasi ‘yun yung masakit. Dapat ano lang talaga, lapat talaga sa pisngi,” she said.
The Aurora actress said that this is important to not hurt both her co-actor and herself.
She also makes sure to follow the director’s instructions on the amount of slaps she should give, and communicate with co-actors during taping about how they would execute the scene.
“Para lang safe for both of us, lalo na dun sa sasampalin,” Jean said. “I make sure naman na safe at tsaka hindi delikado. Tapos ilag talaga.”
After scenes, Jean would also often share food with those she slapped. She would also request the crew to give her co-actor some ice.
“Para lang makabawi, kasi nasaktan kita,” Jean said.
Among those who have expressed their wish to be slapped by Jean is Rabiya Mateo, and even Bea Alonzo said she missed the "intensity nung sampal ni Miss Jean."
Juancho Triviño previously proudly shared a video of them filming a slapping scene, and Brent Valdez said he would tell his grandchildren about being slapped by Jean on "Widows' War."
"Widows’ War" is a murder-mystery series and a spinoff of the popular GMA-7 murder-mystery series "Royal Blood" and "Widow's Web."
Carla Abellana and Bea Alonzo play former best friends Georgina and Samantha. They both lose their husbands and become sworn enemies as they search for justice for their loved ones.
