Aicelle Santos calls for support for 'Isang Himala' amid few screening slots
Aicelle Santos has called on viewers to support her musical film, "Isang Himala," which is one of the official entries at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival.
On social media, the Sparkle star shared a list of cinemas screening the film nationwide. Based on the post, only 24 cinemas are screening the film, as of December 26.
Aicelle wrote that she is filled with love from all the positive reviews the film has garnered, but noted that only a few cinemas are showing it.
"Ngunit sadyang kakaunti lang ang sinehan na nagpapalabas sa amin. Kaya bago pa mawala, unahin niyo nang panoorin ang 'ISANG HIMALA,'" the theater actress and singer said.
"Bubusugin ang iyong kaluluwa, tenga, mata at puso, at mag-iiwan ng palaisipan sa iyo, Pilipino."
"Isang Himala" premiered on Christmas Day on Wednesday, opening in 32 cinemas nationwide.
Prior to "Isang Himala's" premiere, its director Pepe Diokno posted on X (formerly Twitter) where he shared that only about 30 cinemas are screening the film because of its "genre" and "lack of box office stars."
"Hope you can still give our film a chance, and if you like it, your support will help convince more cinemas to screen us," he said on X on December 19.
Hi everyone, been told that "Isang Himala" has only 31 cinemas so far (bec of the "genre", lack of “box office stars”). Hope you can still give our film a chance, and if you like it, your support will help convince more cinemas to screen us. Pls pre-book your tickets here: ???????? pic.twitter.com/oYnsUvxX5W

"Isang Himala" is a musical film based on Ishmael Bernal's classic 1982 film "Himala" that starred Nora Aunor as Elsa. It also debuted on the theater stage as "Himala: Isang Musikal" in 2003, with Aicelle taking on the role of Elsa in 2018.
The 1982 film was written by National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Ricky Lee, and he also co-wrote the script for the MMFF entry with Direk Pepe. Its music and lyrics are by composer Vince De Jesus.
In "Isang Himala," Aicelle reprises her role of Elsa, a young woman from the impoverished town of Cupang. The Virgin Mary allegedly appears as an apparition to her, and she becomes a savior who heals the sick, attracting flocks of pilgrims to their town.
Aside from Aicelle, the musical film stars Bituin Escalante, David Ezra, Victor Robinson III, Neomi Gonzales, Kakki Teodoro, and Sweet Plantado.
