Dennis Trillo says he understands viewers’ anger toward 'Pulang Araw' character Yuta Saitoh
Dennis Trillo has earned the ire of “Pulang Araw” viewers for his brilliant villain portrayal of the Japanese Imperial Army officer, Col. Yuta Saitoh — and he totally gets it.
On Monday’s episode of “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda,” the Kapuso Drama King said that viewers can’t help but curse his character sometimes.
“Maraming mga nagagalit talaga. Minsan talagang hindi nila maiiwasan na magsabi ng mga ano… Minsan minumura na ako,” he shared.
Their anger toward Yuta, however, is totally understandable for Dennis as he acknowledged that his character is indeed evil.
He added that he appreciates the viewers’ reaction towards his character because it shows how effective he is as a villain.
“Natutuwa rin naman ako dahil sa ganoon nakikita ko naman na effective ‘yung ginagawa kong pag-portray sa character bilang kontrabida.”
Aside from “Pulang Araw,” Dennis also plays the role of yet another villain in the Metro Manila Film Festival 2024 entry “Green Bones" as the notorious criminal Domingo Zamora.
According to him, he juggled playing both the roles of Yuta and Domingo as the filming of the MMFF movie overlapped with “Pulang Araw.”
“Nagkasabay silang dalawa. Nag-overlap. Madalas naglalagari ako from set to set, from location to location. Madalas malalayo ‘yung location namin. Siguro bukod doon sa talento, ang pinaka-talent siguro ‘don bukod sa pagiging aktor ay 'yung mabilis kang mag-switch off sa mga characters na ginagawa mo,” he shared.
Despite playing two different characters at once, he shared he was able to switch between his two characters fast.
“Well siguro mas madali kumpara sa iba dahil siguro importante na makilala mo ‘yung mga characters na ginagawa mo and pag alam mo na ‘yung character na ipoportray mo pag nandoon ka na sa set na ‘yon, madali mo nang i-adjust ‘yung mga kailangan mong gawin dahil kilalang-kilala mo na siya.”
"Pulang Araw" airs weeknights on GMA Prime at 8 p.m. after "24 Oras" and also streams on Netflix. The show is now in its finale week.
Meanwhile, “Green Bones” which also stars Ruru Madrid will premiere in cinemas nationwide on December 25. Tickets are now available.
