Hilda Koronel to make acting comeback with historical-thriller film ‘Sisa’

Hilda Koronel is set to make her acting comeback with the film “Sisa.”

On Thursday’s “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” Hilda said that the project is a historical-thriller movie directed by Jun Robles Lana.

While the movie is titled “Sisa,” she clarified that it is not about the Sisa in Jose Rizal’s “Noli Me Tangere,” and instead is an original story by Jun.

“Sisa was—they see her as a mad woman at the beginning. But she was. She was very damaged because her whole family was decimated during the occupation when the Spaniards seeded the country to the Americans. So occupied na naman ang Pilipinas,” said the award-winning veteran actress.

Because her character is not mentally well, people decided to call her Sisa.

“But truly, she wasn’t really crazy. She was aspired for the Nationalist, the revolutionaries,” she said.

According to Hilda, the movie is totally different from her past projects.

“I did ‘Lupang Hinirang,’ which is a period piece in the old days, but it’s totally different. This really is concentrating on her and her revenge, ‘yung gusto niyang mangyari dahil, ‘OK, pinatay niyo ang mga pamilya ko.’ So talaga, it’s very interesting,” she said.

Hilda added that it was “so professionally done” and that she fell in love with the synopsis first.

“I said, ‘OK, I love it. Now give me a good script.’ Actually, I said ‘Give me a great script,’ and they did,” she said.

“Sisa” will also star Eugene Domingo, Jennica Garcia, and more, per Tito Boy.

During the episode, Hilda also talked about what it's like working with the late National Artist for Film, Lino Brocka.

She starred in the famed director's multi-awarded films, including "Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang" (1974), "Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag" (1975), and "Insiang" (1976), which are deemed classics in Philippine cinema.
