Mariz Umali on Maris Racal, Anthony Jennings controversy: 'Ipagdasal na lang natin sila'

Mariz Umali delivered a sobering take to the cheating controversy involving Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings when she was asked about it online.

In GMA Integrated News' "Ask Me Anything" or AMA sessions on Reddit, the Kapuso journalist addressed the memes connecting her to the issue due to her similar name to Maris.

"'Di ko akalaing mag-te-trend ako alongside Maris. Pero seriously I hope we can also give them a break. Masakit pinagdaraanan nila and though Filipinos love humor, naniniwala ako na Filipinos also are sensitive enough to give them peace," Mariz said.

She also encouraged netizens to pray for those involved in the issue.

"Kaugnay sa nangyaring kontrobersya, ipagdasal na lang natin sila. Walang may gusto na malagay sa ganung kontrobersya, sakit at kahihiyan kaya let's pray for their peace of mind and the ability to rise from this painful situation," she said.

Maris and Anthony trended online after the latter's ex-girlfriend, Jam Villanueva, exposed their alleged cheating by posting screenshots of their conversations on Instagram Stories.

Following the issue, Maris issued a video statement, where she took accountability for everything.

She also claimed that Anthony told her he was single when they were first starting their relationship, and that she felt embarrassed after screenshots of their conversations were exposed without her consent.

Anthony, meanwhile, apologized to both Maris, Jam, and to everybody who were affected by the issue.
