Iza Calzado on being part of ‘Green Bones:’ ‘Ito po pala ang aking pagbabalik sa aking GMA’
“Ako si Amihan, avisala!”
This was how Iza Calzado greeted the press at the media conference of the upcoming film, “Green Bones," on Thursday.
The actress has a special participation in the film, which is her first project under GMA Network in years.
Iza revealed that she read the script and said yes because it was a great script, without even grasping that it would be her comeback Kapuso project.
“Hindi ko na-realize. Sabi ni Ms. Nessa [Valdellon, GMA Pictures Executive Vice President and GMA Public Affairs First Vice President], ‘Is this your comeback project with GMA?’” she recounted.
“I read it as a script. When I said yes to it, I said yes because it was a good script, regardless of who was producing it, because the script sang and the script is king, in my opinion,” she said. “So yes, ito po pala ang aking pagbabalik sa aking GMA.”
Iza noted that GMA Network had been her family for 10 years.
"At alam ni Ms. Annette [Gozon-Valdez, GMA Network Senior Vice President for Programming, Talent Management, Worldwide, and Support Group, and President of GMA Films] na mahal na mahal ko sila.”
Per the actress, it is also her first time to have scenes with longtime Kapuso Dennis Trillo, and that she's happy to be in a familiar environment again.
“It felt so familiar but also new. Parang it brought me back to my twenties. Alam mo ‘yun, sila pa rin ‘yung nakikita ko. I looked at them and I thought to myself, ‘Wow, we’ve been through so much and we’re still here. Thank you, Lord,'" she said.
"It’s so nice to work with everybody. I wish I had more scenes with them, but I didn’t really have as many.”
When asked if she will be appearing in more GMA series and films, the actress said that the only network she is saying yes to right now “is my daughter’s network. That is the Deia Network.”
“I am a mother, first and foremost, and in this season of my life,” Iza said.
“I do not know what life has in store for me, so I will always say yes when the project feels right for me.”
During "Green Bones's" media con, Dennis also shared that he had to learn Filipino sign language for the film, while Ruru talked about the strategy he used to step into his character.
“Green Bones” follows notorious criminal Domingo Zamora (Dennis), who was arrested for the murder of his sister. Ruru, who plays newly assigned prison guard Gonzaga, observes that Domingo might be planning an escape, and will do what he can to make sure he stays behind bars.
The films, directed by Zig Dulay, premieres at the Metro Manila Film Festival on December 25.
It is based on an original story by Senior Documentary Manager of GMA Public Affairs JC Rubio, with a screenplay written by National Artist Ricky Lee and MMFF 2023 Best Screenplay winner Angeli Atienza.
More cast members include Alessandra De Rossi, Wendell Ramos, Michael De Mesa, Royce Cabrera, Ronnie Lazaro, Raul Morit, Sofia Pablo, Pauline Mendoza, and Sienna Stevens.
