GMA Network, FPJ Productions ink contract to bring FPJ classics to Kapuso viewers in 2025
GMA Network and FPJ Productions Inc. signed a contract on Tuesday to bring the movies of the late Fernando Poe Jr. to Kapuso viewers in 2025.
During the signing, Senator Grace Poe, the daughter of the late FPJ, expressed her gratitude to GMA Network for commemorating her father’s legacy.
“Nais kong pasalamatan ang GMA Network. Mula sa akin at sa aming pamilya, maraming salamat sa pagpapahalaga sa alaala at sa sining ni FPJ,” Poe said.
“Twenty years na nang namayapa si FPJ pero dahil sa mga pelikula niya at patuloy na napapanood ng ating mga kababayan ay naaalala pa rin siya,” she added.
Present at the contract signing were GMA Network President and Chief Executive Officer Gilberto Duavit Jr., GMA Network Senior Vice President for Programming, Talent Management, Worldwide and Support Group Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes, GMA Network Senior Assistant Vice President Program Management Concepcion Agnes, Senator Grace Poe, Poe’s son Brian Poe-Llamanzares, FPJ Productions Inc. President Jeffrey Stevens Sonora, FPJ Vice President, Corporate Secretary and Treasure Joseph Sonora and Atty. Eugenio Villareal.
Meanwhile, in her speech, Gozon-Valdes shared it is an “honor” to bring FPJ's films to Kapuso viewers.
“He indeed was and still is the King of Philippine Cinema whose influence has been ingrained within our culture and within the hearts and minds of every Filipino,” she said.
“As we commemorate Da King's life and legacy, it is an honor to be able to showcase restored FPJ classics to our Kapuso viewers," she added.
“FPJ sa GMA,” the collection of digitally-restored FPJ classics, will be aired on GMA Network in the first quarter of 2025.
Born Ronald Allan Kelley Poe, FPJ has become an important figure in Filipino pop culture, often being referred to as “Da King" and the “King of Philippine Movies.”
FPJ, whose career spanned over 40 years, has starred in numerous iconic films, such as “Ang Panday,” “Iyo ang Tondo, Akin ang Cavite,” and “Batang Quiapo,” among others.
He has bagged numerous accolades, including a FAMAS Hall of Fame Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award from Gawad Urian. He was also conferred a posthumous National Artist Award, which his family formally accepted in 2012.
FPJ passed away on December 14, 2004 at the age of 65.
