Former 'Unang Hirit' host Rhea Santos among Canada's '75 Faces of Migration'
Rhea Santos is among the "75 Faces of Migration" in Canada, which highlights the stories of 75 Filipinos and Filipino-Canadians in the country.
On Facebook, the former "Unang Hirit" host expressed her pride and joy in being included in the project, a collaboration between the Embassy of Canada in the Philippines and the Philippine Embassy in Canada.
"I am humbled to be part of the 75 Filipinos in Canada chosen for the project 75 Faces of Migration," the Canada-based Filipina journalist wrote.
"It is also with great honor and gratitude to have a portrait painted by a local artist from the Philippines, Gio Sampayan," she added. "I'm deeply overwhelmed."
Rhea said migrating to Canada in 2019 was a "leap of faith" and that she didn't expect to be able to return to journalism.
"In an industry full of uncertainty, I am thankful for the opportunity to do this each day," she said.
"Most of all, thank you to our 'kababayans' who continue to entrust their stories," she added. "You inspire me to be better every day."
In March, Rhea returned to the set of "Unang Hirit" as a guest, where she sang along with her UH Barkada.
After 19 years working on "Unang Hirit," Rhea exited the show in 2019 to study Broadcast and Online Journalism at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
During her visit in 2023, she said she and her family had been granted permanent resident status in Canada.
Congratulations, Rhea!
