'Pulang Araw,' SB19's music among works selected to be archived on the moon

"Pulang Araw" starring Barbie Forteza, Sanya Lopez, David Licauco, and Alden Richards is heading to the moon!

According to Nelson Canlas's report on "24 Oras," Wednesday, the Kapuso series is the first and only Filipino TV series to be included in Lunar Codex's time capsule, which will be sent to the moon.

It is included in the Polaris collection, which is launching to the Lunar South Pole region in 2025.

"Pulang Araw" was chosen to be part of the project for narrating an important part of Philippine history, including the Filipinos' bravery shown during the series' setting.

"Kanina nga, this morning, in-announce 'yan ni Direk Dom, and we're very honored na napili 'yung proyekto namin para magkaroon ng opportunity to be part of the Lunar Codex project, so maraming-maraming salamat for the opportunity po," Alden said.

The project, founded by Dr. Samuel Peralta, will include works of over 40,000 contemporary artists, writers, musicians, and filmmakers from 185 countries and territories and 160 indigenous nations, aiming to preserve them for the next generations.

"Balita ko nga na bilang lang ang mga inilalagay doon, so parang ang sarap lang sa pakiramdam na isa na tayo doon," Sanya said.

Aside from "Pulang Araw," SB19's music is also included in the list of works of Filipino artists to be sent to the moon.

Other Filipino music part of the project are Ryan Cayabyab's collection, Gary Valenciano's collection, Kiana Valenciano's collection, Gabriel Valenciano's collection, and more.

Lunar Codex aimed for the moon after discovering that it won't get affected by many changes on earth, including war and climate change.

Through the use of modern technology, the images were compressed so that they could be brought to the moon.

"It costs about a million dollars per kilogram to send things out in the space, but one of the biggest things that we've done is we've used semiconductor technologies on something called NanoFiche," Peralta said.

The small disc, which is about the size of an American quarter, has little dots, which are miniaturized pages of a book or an art catalog.

"Pulang Araw" airs weeknights on GMA Prime at 8 p.m. after "24 Oras" and also streams on Netflix.
