John Arcilla says he used to join amateur singing contests before becoming an actor
Before he became an award-winning actor, John Arcilla began his career in the spotlight as a young singer.
On Monday's episode of "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda," John said he used to join amateur singing contests as a child in Baler, Aurora.
"Amateurista ako. Ang Ate ko, Ate Marivic ko, laging 'Boy, mayroon ditong ano, amateur contest sa Barangay 1. Halika! Boy, may amateur contest sa Barangay Buhangin, sumama tayo!'" John said.
John said he would always end up in the first place with his signature song "Kapalaran" by Rico J. Puno.
Those days ended, however, when his voice changed as he entered his teenage years.
"Until sa adolescent ko, when I was 13, nag-change 'yung vocal capacity ko, o 'yung voice box ko. So for the first time, nag-crack 'yung voice ko. I was 13 or 12 years old. I was singing 'Kapalaran,'" he said.
"From that on, 13 years akong nagka-stage fright. Hindi ako nakakanta sa stage. Doon ako nag-shift sa acting," John added.
John is set to star in the second season of "Lolong" top-billed by Ruru Madrid. The Venice International Film Festival Best Actor will play the villain role of Julio Figueroa, a powerful businessman with an underground fighting arena.
The series will premiere on GMA Prime in January 2025.
