Boy Abunda weighs in on Julie Anne San Jose's viral church performance

Boy Abunda shared his two cents on Julie Anne San Jose's viral performance at a church event.

On Thursday's "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," the Kapuso host said that the other way to look at the incident is that everybody has learned a lesson and that all parties will be better at what they do because of what happened.

He praised Julie Anne for her desire to help a small church through the event, saying it was "nakakaantig at nakakabilib."

"Nung napanood ko 'yung video, si Julie Anne San Jose kasi for her stature, and she's one of the biggest talents in the music industry today, sa kanyang stature sabi ko parang nakakabilib naman 'tong si Julie Anne. She still does these fundraisings for churches," he said.

Videos of Julie Anne's performance of "Dancing Queen" at the altar of the Nuestra Señora del Pilar Parish earlier went viral, with netizens saying that her song choice as well as her outfit, a gown with a high slit, were inappropriate.

"I know it was wrong, I agree with the public reaction na parang inappropriate 'yung venue," Tito Boy said.

He recalled having the same experience as a manager during one concert in Bicol with his talents.

Tito Boy said that they arrived at the venue on the day of the concert to find out that it was going to be held inside a church, but he demanded that his talents perform outside.

"I haven't spoken to Julie, kasi puwede ring dumating ka, nalaman mo na sa loob ng simbahan, do you actually have the time to change your repertoire, to change her clothes?" he said.

He clarified that he's not making excuses but reminded that there are also on-ground realities, especially for the artists.

"For everything that had happened, lahat ng leksyon na natutunan, makikita ho natin na lahat ng gumalaw na tao dito sa kuwentong ito ay may magandang intensyon at may magandang puso," he said.

On Wednesday night, Sparkle took full responsibility for Julie Anne's attendance at the event, saying "Julie Anne only fulfilled her duties and commitment as a true professional."

Julie Anne also issued an apology, assuring the public that it will not be repeated.

The Apostolic Vicariate of San Jose in Mindoro and Nuestra Señora del Pilar Shrine and Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Carlito M. Dimaano also issued a statement, taking "full responsibility for all that happened" at the event.
