EJ Obiena says he will never comment on Carlos Yulo's personal life, slams 'misleading stories'

EJ Obiena says he will never comment on Carlos Yulo's personal life: 'Any assertion otherwise is outright libel'

EJ Obiena has set the record straight about misleading stories about him and fellow Olympian Carlos Yulo.

On Facebook, Asia’s Best and World No. 3 pole vaulter said he will never comment on anyone's private life, not even his own.

"That’s why it’s called 'Private life'. It’s personal. It’s nobody else’s business," he said.

"Because I embrace these values, I never comment on someone else’s personal life. I HAVE NEVER MADE A SINGLE COMMENT regarding Caloy’s private life and I never shall. Any assertion otherwise is outright libel. I know when to keep my mouth shut; and when it comes to anyone’s private life this is one of those times," he added.

Obiena said that he and Yulo have been friends for many years, and for decades to come.

"I don’t compete with my friend Caloy and I deeply respect him. He is a great champion for our country and I applaud him. I am proud of him. I am thankful for the glory he has brought our country."

He added that if people want to know what he says, they should go to his social media pages, instead of "clickbait sites."

"Thank you and I shall have no further comment on the matter. I am focused on getting ready for the upcoming season. Let’s focus on cheering our athletes on, instead of creating false drama to sell advertising space," he said.

Both Obiena and Yulo competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Obiena concluded his Olympics pole vaulting journey in fourth place, a huge jump from his 11th ranking in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Meanwhile, Yulo made history by winning two gold medals, ruling both the floor exercise and vault in men's gymnastics.
