Radio stalwart CJ Rivera passes away

CJ Rivera, a radio stalwart and friend to many OPM artists, has passed away. He was 44.

"With heavy hearts, we share the loss of our beloved CJ," his radio station Magic 89.9 said on social media.

"He will forever be remembered for the joy and memories he brought to our on-air and off-air through his talent and passion," it added.

"Rest in peace, CJ. The entire Magic 89.9 family sends our deepest condolences to his loved ones," the short message read.

On Tuesday, social media was awashed with tributes for CJ from the local music community, which his wife Bea Librojo-Rivera, couldn't let pass. Taking over CJ's Instagram, Bea reposted their messages and tributes and said, "Every memory of you with him will hold a special place in my heart."

"Thank you for being a part of him." she added.

In her post, Andi Manzano said "I wouldn't be where I am today without your push and encouragement."

"You didn’t just teach me how to navigate the airwaves but you also gave me some of the best advice about life and love. You were such a great friend to everyone and you made everyone around you feel special," she added.

Tin and Riki of The Weak Sauce podcast meanwhile called him "irreplaceable."

"We love you forever. We’ll remember you always. Thank you for giving us another sister in Bea. Thank you for loving us the way you did. Please don’t make us multo," they said.

"You will always be in my heart. No more pain. Rest easy," Sam YG told his "brother, friend and mentor."

Jugs Jugueta of The itchyworms and "It's Showtime" posted a photo of the two of them hugging and could only write three white heart emojis.

As he was battling cancer, CJ had the support of his family and friends, who organized fundraising concerts and set up a funding page online to help with medical bills. A fundraising gig by Stonefree took place at 12 Monkeys in Pasig as recently as August 11.

CJ was born on November 9, 1979 and passed away on August 20, 2024.

Our prayers go out to CJ and his family.
