Sassa Gurl on her role in 'Balota:' 'Malaking tulong sa eleksyon ang mga bakla'
Sassa Gurl's first role on the big screen is an LGBT+ character named Babe in the Cinemalaya entry "Balota."
At the sidelines of the "Balota" premiere at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay on Sunday, the social media star spoke to GMA News Online about the film.
"Bukod sa nagbigay nga ng layers sa pagiging baklang tibak at baklang barangay ang role ko as Babe, isa rin sa mga pinapakita nito na malaking tulong sa eleksyon ang mga bakla at LGBT," Sassa said.
"'Yung mga kuwento namin, nakukuwento namin tuwing eleksyon. So it's a big part of the election na talagang dapat nire-recognize ng maraming mga tao," she added.
Sassa's character, Babe, is a progressive youth who joins pickets left and right and fights against the corrupt system.
"Balota" starring Marian Rivera made its theatrical debut at the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival on Sunday.
Directed by Kip Oebanda, it follows a land-grabbing tycoon and a former male sexy actor who are locked in a tight race for the mayoral seat of a small town.
Marian plays the role of Emmy, a teacher who serves in the election. Emmy runs into the wilderness with a ballot box, the last copy of the election results when violence in their town erupts.
The Kapuso Primetime Queen has garnered high praise for her performance in the film.
"Balota" is currently being screened in selected Ayala Malls nationwide.
