Epy Quizon on bodabil actor role in 'Pulang Araw': ''Wag n'yo akong ikumpara sa tatay ko, napakagaling nun'
Epy Quizon previously said that he accepted his role as Julio Borromeo in "Pulang Araw" to honor his father, the late Comedy King Dolphy, who was a former bodabil actor.
On Thursday's "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," Epy said he could not say no to the role despite initially wishing to rest from work for one month.
"How can I say no to a vaudeville actor during World War II? Kuwento ng tatay ko 'yan sa 'kin, 'di ba, nung mga panahon na 'yan," Epy said. "When I saw it, I'm like, 'Ah, I'm in.'"
Nonetheless, the actor humbly said he could not match his father's abilities in bodabil.
"'Wag n'yo akong ikumpara sa tatay ko dahil iba 'yung tatay ko, 'di ba?" Epy said, sharing that they had to dedicate an entire day for his numbers when taping.
"Nakakatakot kasi alam mo agad na ikukumpara ako sa tatay ko eh, 'di ba? So ngayon palang sinasabi ko sa inyo, huwag niyo akong ikumpara. Napakagaling nun," he said.
"Pulang Araw" traces the intertwined lives of four childhood friends: Adelina (Barbie Forteza), Teresita (Sanya Lopez), Hiroshi (David Licauco), and Eduardo (Alden Richards).
The main antagonist of the series is Col. Yuta Saitoh, played by Dennis Trillo. He is a Japanese imperial army officer whose mission is to conquer the Philippines. He will have feelings for Teresita.
"Pulang Araw" made a strong debut on Netflix on July 26 and was a trending topic on X. The series is on the No. 1 spot on the platform's list of "Top 10 TV Shows in the Philippines Today."
"Pulang Araw" also airs weeknights on GMA Prime at 8 p.m. after "24 Oras."
