Angelu De Leon asked permission from Mayor Vico Sotto to do 'Pulang Araw' role
Angelu De Leon said that she asked permission from Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto before accepting her "Pulang Araw" role as Carmela Borromeo.
On "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda," Angelu said she did it to balance her job as a Pasig City councilor and her showbiz work.
"S'yempre may mga taping days na kailangan doon. Para rin in respect din dun sa trabaho ko ngayon bilang konsehal ng Pasig," she said.
"Kailangan magpaalam para hindi lagi siyang naghahap, "Nasa'n si Angelu? Bakit wala?" she added.
Angelu's character, Carmela, is the wife of bodabil actor and theater owner Julio Borromeo (Epy Quizon). She is the mother of Teresita (Sanya Lopez).
Set before and during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, "Pulang Araw" follows the story of four childhood friends who face different struggles as war erupts in the country.
It also stars Barbie Forteza as Adelina, David Licauco as Hiroshi, Alden Richards as Eduardo, and Dennis Trillo as Col. Yuta Saitoh.
Other cast members include Rochelle Pangilinan, Ashley Ortega, Neil Ryan Sese, and more, with special participation from Rhian Ramos, Julie Anne San Jose, and others.
"Pulang Araw" airs weeknights on GMA Prime at 8 p.m. after "24 Oras." It is also streaming on Netflix, where it is currently no. 1 on the Top 10 TV Shows in the Philippines Today.
