Benjamin Alves bids goodbye to 'Widows' War' character Basil
Benjamin Alves has taken his final bow as Basil Palacios in "Widows' War."
On Instagram, Thursday, Benjamin said his farewell to his character, who died on his own birthday party. He is one of the fan favorites in the show.
Basil is the cousin of Paco Palacios (Rafael Rosell) and the husband of Georgina Balay (Carla Abellana).
"Basil, today, I bid you goodbye. Sobra kitang minahal, and may your zesty spirit never die. You will always be inside me," he said. "Rest in peace, you sassy b----."
Benjamin also wrote a message of appreciation for his "Widows' War" family after his exit.
"I just want to say thank you to Widows' War for allowing me to be seen as an actor. Every time I read a compliment or a review about Basil in this show, it brings tears to my eyes," he said.
Benjamin said his role in the series came to him at a time when he thought that his place in the industry is "coming to an end."
"Thank you for reminding me that there are no small roles; not in film, not in TV… not even in real life. I approached this thinking this was going to be my last, and if it were, I'm so happy to have given my whole heart - my whole being to fulfill Basil," he said.
"It's such a pleasure to walk on set every day to do the one thing I always dreamed of since I was a kid. And to be able to play in this sandbox with such support and such love, well, what more can an actor ask for?"
He also expressed his gratitude to his Director Zig Dulay, show creator RJ Nuevas, and his co-stars, with special mention to Carla, Bea Alonzo, Jean Garcia, Tonton Gutierrez, and Lito Pimentel.
"Widows' War," a spinoff of Kapuso murder mystery series "Widows' Web" and "Royal Blood," airs weeknights on GMA Prime at 8:50 p.m. after "Pulang Araw."
