Julie Anne San Jose appears as Katy Dela Cruz, Queen of Bodabil, in 'Pulang Araw'
Julie Anne San Jose has made her special appearance in "Pulang Araw" as Katy Dela Cruz, the Queen of Bodabil.
On Tuesday's episode, Katy was performing at the Cine Borromeo when Adelina arrived with her aunt and uncle to see her father.
The young girl was amazed with the show as Katy sang "Some of These Days" by Sophie Tucker. Also with her on the stage were her chorus girls Etang Discher, Chichay and Mary Walter.
The three bodabil actresses were played by Lauren King, Zephanie, and Waynona Collings.
Katy, who was born as Catalina Dela Cruz, was known for her jazz vocals and was once the highest paid entertainer in the Philippines.
She also occasionally acted in films and won a FAMAS Best Supporting Actress trophy for her performance in "Inspirasiyon."
Meanwhile, Etang, Chichay, and Mary also enjoyed long careers in Philippine cinema.
"Pulang Araw" stars Barbie Forteza, Sanya Lopez, David Licauco, and Alden Richards. Set before and during the Japanese occupation, the series follows four childhood friends as they navigate struggles amid the war.
Dennis Trillo also stars in the series as its main antagonist, an officer of the Japanese imperial army tasked to conquer the Philippines.
It airs weeknights on GMA Prime at 8 p.m. after "24 Oras." It is also streaming on Netflix, where it is currently no. 1 on the Top 10 Shows in the Philippines Today.
