Yassi Pressman says 'Black Rider' character is one of her favorite roles

Yassi Pressman says her character on “Black Rider” is one of her favorite roles to have played because it was new to her.

The actress plays the street-smart and tough Bane and later on the amnesia victim Vanessa. She was cast as Ruru Madrid’s leading lady.

At the media conference for the show’s finale week, Yassi said the role has “been a roller coaster ride” and that it was “really, really fun.”

She added that Bane is somebody she has never portrayed before.

“Talagang napaka tapang niya po at talagang mahal na mahal niya po ‘yung pamilya niya. Paglalaban niya po talaga—[kahit] hanggang sa suntukan—‘yung mga taong mahal niya sa buhay.”

Yassi likewise said that the new parts of the series featuring Vanessa have been enjoyable.

“There’s just so many emotions din po para sa isang taong nagkaron ng amnesia na hindi ko rin na-portray noon,” she said. “Hinahanap niya po kung sino siya at kung ano ‘yung mga experiences niya, ‘yung mga taong mahal niya, bakit ganto yung mga nararamdaman niya sa puso niya, kasabay ng mga brainwashing ng mga taong nasa paligid niya.”

For these reasons and despite the character’s ups and downs, Yassi said that she is grateful to have portrayed the role and was able to showcase her range as an actress.

Yassi added that aside from “Black Rider” making an impact in her career, she is also thankful to have new experiences.

“Very, very lucky po na lahat po ng mga ka tent-mates ko, castmates ko are very, very loving and welcoming,” she said. “I will always cherish those moments.”

In the action-packed GMA Prime series, Ruru plays delivery rider turned local hero, Elias, who fights for justice for his family and community.

“Black Rider” also tackles themes of social class, and how the rich use their power to challenge the lives of the poor.

The show won a Bronze medal from the New York Festivals TV & Film 2024. It is the only entertainment program from GMA Network that was recognized. New York Festivals TV & Film also awarded six documentaries and special reports from GMA Public Affairs and GMA News. Ruru dedicated the win to unsung heroes.

Joining the star-studded cast are Jon Lucas, Raymond Bagatsing, Rio Locsin, Herlene Budol, Empoy, and many more.

Michelle Dee, Angeli Khang, Isko Moreno, Joaquin Domagoso, and more also appeared on the show.
