Epy Quizon says he accepted ‘Pulang Araw’ role to honor Dolphy

Epy Quizon says he accepted ‘Pulang Araw’ role because of his father Dolphy

Epy Quizon said yes to working on “Pulang Araw” as a way to honor his late father, Dolphy.

In the highly anticipated historical series, the actor plays Julio Borromeo, the father of Adelina (Barbie Forteza) and Teresita (Sanya Lopez), a vaudeville theater owner pre-war, who passed on his passion and talents to Adelina and Teresita, and would perform alongside them.

During the series' grand media conference in Makati City Tuesday, Epy said the role is special to him because his father, the late King of Comedy, started his career as a vaudeville performer.

“Medyo malapit sa ‘kin, sa puso ko dahil ang tatay ko ay isang mananayaw ng bodabil,” he said.

“At syempre, pinagdaanan ng tatay ko ‘yung panahon ng giyera 'di 'ba. Naikekwento niya sa ‘min,” Epy added.

According to the actor, he was supposed to take a break from show business, but just had to accept the role. “Nung pinakita sa ‘kin ‘yung character description at tsaka ‘yung concept nito, sabi ko, ‘I want to be part of this,’” Epy said.

“Pulang Araw” traces the intertwined lives of four childhood friends: Adelina (Barbie), Teresita (Sanya), Hiroshi (David Licauco), and Eduardo (Alden Richards). As war ravages their homeland and Japanese forces occupy the Philippines, their dreams, friendships, and loyalties are tested, leading them on a journey of self-discovery and resilience.

Dennis Trillo joins the cast in his first major kontrabida role. Rhian Ramos has also been tapped to join the cast.

“Pulang Araw,” is coming to Netflix via www.netflix.com/PulangAraw on July 26 and GMA Prime beginning July 29.
