'Pulang Araw' introduces full cast of characters in new teaser trailer
"Pulang Araw" just released a teaser trailer introducing the full cast of characters of the upcoming family drama series.
Barbie Forteza plays Adelina Dela Cruz, the younger sister of Eduardo Dela Cruz played by Alden Richards. She hates the Americans, so when World War II first breaks out, she sides with the Japanese.
Eduardo hates his American father, who abused their mother. He is a caring older brother to Adelina and has feelings for Teresita. He joins the guerilla forces, siding neither with the Americans nor the Japanese.
Sanya Lopez plays Adelina's older half-sister Teresita Borromeo, who dreams to become a vaudeville star. Her parents are Carmela and Julio Borromeo, played by Angelu De Leon and Epy Quizon.
Meanwhile, David Licauco plays Hiroshi Tanaka, a son of Japanese immigrants. He returns to Japan to study, but eventually comes back to the Philippines and reunites with his childhood friends Adelina, Teresita, and Eduardo.
Carmela and Julio attempt to engage Teresita to Hiroshi, but he is in love with Adelina. When the war breaks out, he is forced to serve his country as a soldier.
The main antagonist of the series is Col. Yuta Saitoh played by Dennis Trillo. He is a Japanese imperial army officer whose mission is to conquer the Philippines. He will have feelings for Teresita.
Other cast members include Rochelle Pangilinan as Amalia Dimalanta-Torres and Neil Ryan Sese as her husband Lauro Torres. She is taken by the Japanese and forced to serve as comfort woman, along with the nun Manuela Apolonio played by Ashley Ortega.
Mikoy Morales and Aidan Veneracion will play guerilla members Tasyo and Mario, while Tyro Dylusan will play Juan, a child who tags along with Eduardo as he fights the Japanese.
Julie Anne San Jose will have a special participation as Katy Dela Cruz, the queen of vaudeville. Derrick Monasterio, Isay Alvarez, Rabiya Mateo, Jackie Woo, Maria Ozawa, Billy Ray Gallon, Rhian Ramos will also have special roles in the series.
Sef Cadayona, Jay Arcilla, and Robert Seña are also in the show.
Written by Suzette Doctolero and directed by Dominic Zapata, "Pulang Araw" will premiere on Netflix on July 26, three days before its television premiere on July 29.
