Direk Joey Reyes mourns passing of BFF Manny Castañeda

Direk Joey Reyes mourns passing of Manny Castañeda

Director Joey Reyes is mourning the passing of his best friend director-actor Manny Castañeda.

The president of Film Development Council of the Philippines took to Facebook Monday morning to share a touching post about his friend of 61 years, saying "I do not know how it is going to be without my best friend just sitting out there ready to bitch it out with me."

In his tribute, Reyes recalled how they met when they were only eight years old, and then reconnected "at the canteen in De la Salle College" and became inseperable.

"All throughout college ... until we both ended up teaching then finding our place in the insane world of show business," Reyes wrote.

He acknowledged their differences but said their friendship always took precedence. "We were there for each other ... all the way," he said.

"I never told this you when you were around because I knew you would just cringe and tell me to shut up --- but you are such a great part of my life because you are my irreplaceable BFF," Reyes added.

"I am going to miss you big time," he concluded his post that contains a cute black and white photo of the two of them.

Reyes did not mention the cause of death, or when Castañeda died.

On Sunday, Reyes posted an old photo of their presumed barkada and said "Never undervalue much less underestimate ... the true treasures in your life. Always find the time to tell them you love them."

Before that, he wrote on Facebook that he was in pain. "My heart is so broken. I love you, my friend. I will miss you so badly."

Castañeda's last project was with GMA Public Affairs' "Makiling."

He was part of great films like "Oro Plata Mata" and "Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas," and directed movies like "Guwapings Dos," "I Love You Daddy," "Kailanman," and "Sa Kabilugan ng Buwan."
