Ken Chan celebrates opening of restaurant branch in Quezon City

Ken Chan celebrated over the weekend the opening of his restaurant's branch, Deer Claus Steakhouse and Restaurant, on Timog Avenue, Quezon City — and it was a star-studded affair!

According to Nelson Canlas' report on "24 Oras," Sunday, this is the Sparkle artist's seventh restaurant. Ken shared that he was inspired by the late veteran actor, Master Showman German "Kuya Germs" Moreno, who advised him that he should also go into business.

"Sabi niya sa'kin, pag-ingatan ko 'yung kinikita ko and, as much as possible, kung meron akong maitatago itago ko para in the future makapag-put up ako ng sarili kong business. Sobrang masaya ako kasi natupad ko 'yung pangarap sa'kin ni tatay, ni Kuya Germs, na magkaroon ng sariling business," he said.

Ken also shared these words of wisdom to "Abot-Kamay Na Pangarap" co-star Jillian Ward, who attested to his being hard-working.

"Sobrang hard'working ni Ken Chan, lagi niya sinasabi sa'kin na dapat hindi ka lang sa showbiz industry, try mo rin 'yung iba, mag business ka for the future," Jillian said.

The new Deer Claus Steakhouse and Restaurant in Quezon City is the second branch of Ken's restaurant. There's also another Deer Claus branch in Balanga, Bataan, and one that's soon to open in Lipa, Batangas.

Aside from the steakhouse, Ken also owns the Christmas-themed Cafe Claus + Bakery, with several branches in Luzon.

Ken's other friends in the entertainment industry also graced the branch opening, including "Running Man Philippines" runner Glaiza De Castro, Bianca Umali, and boyfriend, "Black Rider" star Ruru Madrid, among many others. Glaiza and Jillian also lent their vocals for a jamming session at the opening.

Ken is just one among the lucky Kapuso stars who received mentorship from the late Kuya Germs, who passed away in 2016. When Ken received his star at the Eastwood City Walk of Fame in 2018, he dedicated the recognition to his mentor, who told him that he would one day have his own star there.

In a 2020 interview, Ken also recalled the life lessons he received from Kuya Germs, who told him he must not focus on fame if he wanted to be a true artist.

Ken currently stars in "Abot-Kamay Na Pangarap" with Jillian, Carmina Villarroel, Richard Yap, and more. Early this month, it was announced that the hit series will be extended anew.
