Bea Alonzo talks about about her 'Widows' War' role: 'Gray character na meron ding kabaliwan'
There’s only about a little more than a week left before “Widows’ War,” GMA Network’s newest murder-mystery series, begins airing on our TV screens!
It will star Carla Abellana alongside Bea Alonzo, who described her character, Sam Castillo, as someone who’s a “fighter.”
“I like that she’s a gray character na meron ding kabaliwan, so I liked that about her," Bea said during the series’ press conference on Friday. "She really fights for her family. ‘Yun hindi na bago sa atin, karamihan sa mga napapanood nating karakter sa telebisyon. I think kaya natin nagugustuhan ‘yung mga teleserye is because we can relate to them and most characters that we watch on TV ganoon naman eh.”
“Talagang I think in general, Filipinos are family-oriented. That’s what I like about her. Pero ang gusto ko sa kaniya is that hindi siya tumitigil hangga’t makita niya o matagpuan niya ‘yung katotohanan, so I guess that’s what drew me to her,” she added.
The Kapuso actress also said that, aside from the genre, she accepted the project because she had always wanted to work with Zig Dulay, the director behind "Maria Clara at Ibarra" and Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2023 Best Picture "Firefly."
“Buti na lang nabigyan ako ng chance to kasi hindi ko pinagsisisihan kasi ‘yung proseso niya at ‘yung talento niya, talagang ishe-share niya sa aming lahat,” Bea said.
"Widow's War" is a spinoff of the popular murder-mystery series "Royal Blood" and "Widow's Web."
The project also stars Tonton Gutierrez, Jean Garcia, Rita Daniela, Jeric Gonzales, Benjamin Alves, Juancho Triviño, Jackie Lou Blanco, James Graham, and more.
“Widows’ War” will begin airing on July 1 at 8:50 p.m. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
