SB19's Stell on why it took a long time for him to release solo music: ‘Hindi ako ready’
Stell is the last member of the SB19 to debut as a solo artist and at last week's launch of his single, "Room," he revealed several reasons why.
“Hindi ako ready mag-solo,” Stell admitted. “Feeling ko hindi kayo maniniwala, pero hindi talaga ako ready for this.”
Laughing, he added, "But ito na eh, na-release na eh. Wala na ‘kong karapatang sabihin na hindi ako ready.”
Stell describes his solo journey as fast-paced. After SB19's two-day PAGTATAG! Concerts in May, he only had a one-day dance rehearsal before having to shoot the music video the following day.
“The whole time iniisip ko, ‘ito ba talaga ‘yun? Ready ba talaga ‘ko?’”
But the singer dropped his thoughts because "'yung passion ko for music, sobrang everyday nag-go-grow siya."
Another reason it took Stell awhile is SB19. He truly enjoys working with his band, he said.
“When I started performing as an SB19 member, parang na-feel ko na kaagad na gusto ko silang kasama mag-perform. Parang hindi ako sanay mag-perform mag-isa, gusto ko lagi ko silang kasama,” he said.
According to Stell, it was his bandmates who encouraged and supported him when opportunities to go solo — like being a judge on "The Voice Generations" — came his way.
“Mas na-feel ko na, ‘ah, kaya ko pala. Kaya ko din pala tumanggap ng mga solo engagement'," he said.
It was also his SB19 bandmates who pushed for Stell to release solo music. In fact, his bandmate, Justin De Dios, directed the theatrical music video of his solo single debut, "Room."
Stell is set to release his debut EP with all original songs in August, and is all set to go on a nationwide tour.
Stell and his fellow “The Voice Generations” judge Julie Anne San Jose will be holding a two-night concert in July.
He is also set to be a judge on “The Voice Kids” on GMA-7.
