Khalil Ramos gets a Gawad Buhay nomination for 'Tick, Tick… Boom!'
Khalil Ramos has been nominated for his lead role in the musical "Tick, Tick… Boom!" at the 14th Gawad Buhay Awards.
According to Sparkle Artist Center, Khalil is nominated for the Male Lead Performance in a Musical category. He is competing against Myke Solomon ("The Last Five Years"), Gio Gahol ("Walang Aray"), and Jon Abella ("Walang Aray")
Along with Khalil, "Tick, Tick...Boom!" actress Kayla Rivera was also nominated for the Female Featured Performance in a Musical, and the rest of the "Tick, Tick...Boom!" ensemble for the "Outstanding Ensemble Performance for a Musical."
This year's Gawad Buhay awarding ceremony is set for July 9 at the PETA Theater Center.
Khalil starred in "Tick, Tick… Boom!" in August last year and described the experience as "surreal." He played the character of Jon, a struggling, aspiring composer in New York City, who writes a musical in order to enter the theater industry. That musical ended up being "Rent."
"Tick, Tick...Boom!" is a semi-autobiographical work by Jonathan Larson. It debuted Off-Broadway in 2001 and gained more popularity as a Netflix film starring Andrew Garfield and directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is also the man behind "Hamilton."
