Were Romnick Sarmenta, Sheryl Cruz in a relationship during their love team days? Actor answers

Romnick Sarmenta and Sheryl Cruz were among the most popular love teams in the 1980s. But were they in a relationship during that time?

Romnick answered this question in an episode of "Updated With Nelson Canlas," looking back on the time they were paired together on-screen.

"Ano ba tamang sagot, Sheryl? Hindi ko kasi alam kung inamin niya," the actor first quipped, before explaining that he was 17 and she was only 15 when they began their reel partnership.

"So kung iniisip ng mga tao naging sila ba? Sa kung anuman po ang abot kaya nung ganun klaseng pag-iisip mula 15, 17, tapos umabot ako ng 18, 19, so siya umabot ng mga 17, parang naging kami. Siguro dahil we were always together," he said.

Nelson asked if it was something like MU or mutual understanding.

"Oo parang ganun. But we were also very young. So hindi mo masasabi na, seryoso ba 'yan o hindi? Hindi mo rin puwedeng sabihin hindi naman siya seryoso. Kasi we were together. We were not trying to play with each other's feelings," the actor said.

"I think it's fair to say na the being together every day made us fond of each other and we found it easier to relate to each other. Pero to call it a relationship, I think masyado kami bata din," he added.

Sheryl was recently asked the same question on "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda."

According to the actress, Romnick courted her but she did not take it seriously because she had different priorities at that time.

"I cannot call it really like serious serious thing because for me my head wasn't about relationship. My head was really focused about finishing school, and not only finishing school but also moving on to become a solo actress that will be paired off with other leading men," she said.

Romnick recently won Best Actor in Gawad Urian for his performance in the film "About Us But Not About Us."

Meanwhile, Sheryl currently stars in GMA Afternoon Prime series "Lilet Matias: Attorney-at-Law," which airs weekdays at 3:20 p.m. after "Abot-Kamay Na Pangarap."
