'Pulang Araw' cast proudly raises Philippine flag ahead of Independence Day

The main cast of "Pulang Araw" proudly raised the Philippine flag ahead of the country's celebration of its 126th Independence Day on Wednesday.

A 45-second teaser of the series was unveiled on Monday after "24 Oras," where the Barbie Forteza, Sanya Lopez, David Licauco, Alden Richards, and Dennis Trillo gave a glimpse into their characters in the upcoming series.

Alden was seen firing a rifle, while Barbie and Sanya wore dresses in the style of the 1940s. David Licauco carried a pistol while Dennis wore a military uniform and unsheathed a sword.

Towards the end of the teaser, Alden carried the Philippine flag as he ran through a forest and as unseen enemies rain fire on him.

In Nelson Canlas's report on "24 Oras," the cast reflected on what "Pulang Araw" means to them and their hopes for the series.

"Bibigyan nating ng larawan 'yung mga kwento ng ating mga lolo at lola sa atin. So itong project na ito after this is shown in Philippine television, magkaroon sana ito ng ripple effect when it comes to, you know, magamit sa mga eskwelahan," Alden said.

"'Yung freedom na meron tayo ngayon is we owe to to the people who have experienced that dark part of history."

For Barbie, the series is huge for her career.

"Parang isa ito sa mga teleseryeng proud ako na maikukuwento sa mga anak ko pagdating ng araw. kasi naging parte ako ng napaka importanteng proyekto na tatagal ng ages," she said.

David and Sanya, for their part, said the series helped them get to know our forebears and what it means to be a Filipino.

"Through this teleserye makikita ng mga generations now na ganoon ang sacrifice na ginawa ng Pilipino noon," David said.

"Nakatulong siya saw akin para mas ma-appreciate 'yung buhay nating mga filipino. Nakaka-proud na maging Filipino," said Sanya.

"Pulang Araw" previously released a special message to mark Araw ng Kagitingan on April 9. Alden delivered a poem about fighting for one's country and waved the Philippine flag.

The series will make its debut on Netflix on July 26, three days before it airs on GMA Prime.

The "Pulang Araw" cast also includes Rhian Ramos, Ashley Ortega, Epy Quizon, Mikoy Morales, Angelu De Leon, Aidan Veneracion, Rochelle Pangilinan, and more. It is directed by Dominic Zapata.
