Yasmien Kurdi shares meaning behind baby Raya Layla’s name

There's a meaningful story behind the name of Yasmien Kurdi's newborn daughter, Raya Layla.

On Instagram, the actress shared photos of her baby outside the operating room. In her caption, she said that Raya is a combination of the names of Yasmien, her husband’s name Rey, and their oldest daughter Ayesha.

“Tapos Raya means Queen or Friend at the same time inspired din siya na sa #RayaandTheLastDragon na may friend siyang #WaterDragon (na si Ayesha yun kasi Water Dragon si AZ),” Yasmien added.

Meanwhile, Layla comes from the Arabic word “lay,” meaning night or dark.

“The name also came from my grandma (father’s side), she passed away during pandemic… siya yung nag expose sakin sa kitchen at a young age kasi magaling magluto yun,” Yasmien said.

“Kaya favorite hero ko sa #Layla sa ML,” she added with a laughing emoji.

Yasmien continued to gush over her newborn.

“Hanggang ngayon di pa rin ako makapaniwala na may baby na uli kami ni Pangga,” she said. “#RayaLayla we love youuuu super bait! Ang dali alagaan huhu… TYL!”

Yasmien is married to pilot Rey Soldevilla. Their 11-year-old daughter, Ayesha Zara, is talented in the arts.

The family announced in November 2023 that they were expecting another baby.

Yasmien gave a glimpse of the ultrasound of “Baby Dragon” in March. They revealed that they were having a girl in April.

Yasmien gave birth to Raya Layla nearing the end of April via cesarean section, and officially introduced her on May 1.
