Marian Rivera to star in Cinemalaya film 'Balota'
After her successful big-screen comeback with “Rewind,” Marian Rivera is set to star in another movie this year!
According to Aubrey Carampel’s Balitanghali report on Tuesday, the Kapuso Primetime Queen will star in this year's Cinemalaya entry “Balota,” co-produced by GMA Pictures and GMA Entertainment Group.
“Balota” follows the story of a land-grabbing tycoon and a former male sexy actor who is locked in a tight race for the mayoral seat of a small town.
Marian will play the role of Emmy, a teacher who serves in the election. Emmy runs into the wilderness with a ballot box, the last copy of the election results when violence in their town erupts.
The movie is written and directed by Kip Oeband, the filmmaker behind “Liway,” and “Bar Boys.”
It will premiere at the Cinemalaya Film Festival which will run from August 2 to 11.
Marian recently starred in the Metro Manila Film Festival movie, “Rewind” alongside husband Dingdong Dantes. The blockbuster hit is now the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time in Philippine domestic sales and is available on Netflix.
She is also starring in her comeback project, “My Guardian Alien.” The actress said she accepted the role because she wanted her kids to watch it, and because families can learn a lot from the series. —Jade Veronique Yap/JCB, GMA Integrated News
