Shaira Moro's 'Selos' voluntarily removed from streaming platforms, agency in contact with Lenka to secure cover license

“Selos,” the song by the rising singer Shaira Moro has been removed from streaming platforms following issues of copyright infringement.

In a reply to an Instagram comment, Australian singer Lenka said her team had already "taken legal action" against Moro for using the melody of her song “Trouble Is a Friend.”

On Facebook early Wednesday, Moro's recording label AHS Channel said they “voluntarily” took down the song as they are still in the process of securing a cover license for her viral hit song “Selos.”

“This is a voluntary act on our end as we are still making arrangements with regards to the legality of the publication of the song," the statement read.

"We have chosen to take it down from all platforms pending our agreement with the original artist’s management on securing a cover license for Selos,: it added.

AHS Channel also confirmed that the melody of the song indeed came from Lenka’s “Trouble is a Friend” song.

“As most of you may know, the melody that we have used is originally from a song entitled 'Trouble is a Friend' by Lenka and as of the moment, we are already in contact with her team for us to make 'Selos' an official cover,” it said.

Despite this, Moro’s agency thanked those who have been “entertained” by her cover song. They also expressed how proud they are of Moro, who is dubbed as the “Queen of Bangsamoro Pop,” and hoped that they will show her the “same love and acceptance” once a reupload version comes out.

“We certainly did not expect that it will become this big to a point where Shaira will be known as the “Queen of Bangsamoro Pop”. We could not be prouder.  We hope that when time comes and we will be re-uploading the song, you will show her the same love and acceptance,” it said.

In comment section of their post, AHS Channel said Moro will be releasing “original music” soon.

“Anyway, Shaira Moro Singer will be out with more original music soon so stay tuned for that,” it said.

Shaira’s cover became a viral hit in TikTok last year, with users using the song for funny edits, and even doing a dance challenge for it. The song was used in over 500,000 posts in the microblogging platform.
