Angeles City’s Joanne Thornley withdraws from Miss Universe Philippines pageant due to ‘health challenges’

Angeles City has announced the withdrawal of their candidate, Joanne Thornley, from the Miss Universe Philippines pageant.

On Tuesday afternoon, the city's official Miss Universe Philippines page posted a statement, saying Joanne “has faced health challenges which prevented her from attending earlier activities.”

“Her health concerns required her to prioritize her well-being above all else,” the statement said.

Angeles City also extended its appreciation to the Miss Universe Philippines Organization, as well as the sponsors and the creatives.

“Your dedication to empowering women is truly commendable. Please continue to extend your support and encouragement to the remaining contestants as they embark on this remarkable journey,” it said.

“As for our Angeleños and supporters, we are incredibly grateful for all the love and encouragement we have received while Joanne represented our beloved Angeles City in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant. We will forever cherish this unwavering support in our hearts.”

Joanne was not the first candidate to withdraw from the upcoming pageant.

Last month, Kananga’s Natasha Jung also announced her withdrawal. She was replaced by Phoebe Arrianna Veloso Torita.

Earlier, the Miss Universe Philippines Organization released the candidates’ evening gown photos, official headshots, swimsuit photos, and introduction videos.

The winner will succeed Sparkle star Michelle Dee, who finished in the top 10 of the Miss Universe pageant last year.
