Shaira Diaz and EA Guzman reveal they've been engaged since 2021

After over a decade together, Shaira Diaz and EA Guzman are engaged!

The couple made the announcement on "Unang Hirit" and revealed the proposal happened on December 25, 2021.

"Yes, mga Kapuso and ‘UH’ fam, Shaira and I are engaged,” EA officially announced, with Shaira holding up her ring.

EA was on the show to promote the upcoming GMA Afternoon Prime series “Lilet Matias: Attorney-At-Law,” where he plays lawyer Kurt Ignacio.

During his guesting, he played a game where silhouette pictures were shown and he had to guess the events that happened. These include Shaira’s debut, their trip to New York, and finally, when he got down on one knee to propose to Shaira.

“Alam kong nasa industriya kami ng showbusiness, hindi ‘to sa taping, hindi ‘to eksena ng taping. Ito po ay nangyari sa aktwal na sitwasyon,” EA said.

Asked why they kept their engagement private, EA answered, “I respect Shaira a lot.”

“Ni-respect ko lang 'yung time niya. I know pag nag-propose ako, baka mag-no siya sa ‘kin, that’s the truth. Pero naniwala ako sa pagmamahal niya and alam niya pag nag-propose ako sa kanya, pag nag-yes siya, I’m willing to wait sa right time niya, sa gusto niyang goal namin na pupuntahan, I’ll wait for her."

An emotional Shaira added that this is also the right time to announce because “readying-ready na ‘ko.”

“Ready na ‘ko gumawa ng pamilya in the future, [and] makasama siya habang buhay,” she added. “Sobrang ready na ‘ko, gusto ko nang ipagsigawan sa mundo kung gano kami nagmamahalan, kung gano ko siya ka-mahal.”

The proposal

As seen in the video presentation, on the proposal night itself, EA surprised Shaira with a flower set-up and the neon-lit words, “Will you marry me?”

“I love you so much and I want to spend the rest of my life with you,” EA told Shaira, before proposing.

“Sa harap ng mga mahal natin sa buhay, Shaira Mae Dela Cruz aka Shaira Diaz…” EA did not finish his sentence, but instead opened the engagement ring’s box.

Shaira and EA are celebrating their 11th anniversary on Saturday, February 17. They first met at a reality show, and then developed feelings for each other after they performed at a mall show.

Shaira previously revealed that she wants to marry EA after her college graduation which is scheduled for August.

During a trip to South Korea in 2023, Shaira and EA headed to the N Seoul Tower for the famed love lock experience and also got tattoos together. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
