Coldplay's Chris Martin thanks fans for enduring heavy traffic

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin thanked the fans who braved heavy traffic on Friday to watch the first of their two-night concert at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

The British rock band is in the Philippines for their Music of the Spheres World Tour.

“I think we’ve seen some traffic, but I think you have number one in the world, so thank you for making the effort to come through all of that **** to be here,” Martin said.

At least 40,000 people attended the event on Friday, including President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

GMA News Online has reached out to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority for comment.

NLEX Corporation had released a traffic advisory ahead of the show, alerting motorists of a possible influx of traffic and offering alternative routes for other motorists not bound for the concert.

Despite the traffic situation, Martin shared that he was grateful to perform for his Filipino fans once more.

“Masaya kaming makabalik sa Pilipinas. Thank you for speaking Taglish with me. I’m so grateful to be here. welcome everybody. So happy to be here and so grateful and ang ganda niyong lahat,’’ Martin said.

Coldplay held its first concert in the country in 2017.

The band also made sustainability commitments for this year’s tour, utilizing solar and renewable energy along with power bikes and kinetic dance floors, recyclable plant-based LED wristbands, cutting tour emissions by 50%, and promising to plant one ticket for every tour ticket sold. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
