Jiro Manio on why he used 'ipatago' when he brought his Gawad Urian trophy to Boss Toyo

Jiro Manio tells the story behind his Gawad Urian trophy and Boss Toyo

Jiro Manio mentioned that, aside from using it as a source of additional funds, he wanted his Gawad Urian trophy to be showcased at the museum planned by Boss Toyo or Jayson Luzadas, which is why he ultimately decided to sell it to the vlogger.

On Friday’s episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” the former actor recalled how he came up with the idea to meet Boss Toyo.

“Ang totoo po kasi niyan, Tito Boy, nag-uusap po kami ng utol ko, asawa po ng ate ko, sa bahay namin na ‘Paanoorin ko kaya ‘tong si Boss Toyo. Ano kayang puwede kong gawin?’ Sabi niya, ‘Puwede mo ngang ibenta diyan ‘yung trophy mo,’” he narrated.

Later on, Jiro decided to go for the Gawad Urian Best Actor trophy he won in 2004 for his work in the drama film "Magnifico."

“Dahil po dun sa bato, ‘yung M. Kasi may tatak po ‘yun eh, Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino,” he said.

Jiro also said that the term he used is “ipatago.”

“Ayun, sabi ko, siguro bagay ‘to, ipatago ko kay Boss Toyo. ‘Yun nga po ‘yung term, marami nga pong nagtatanong bakit daw po ipapatago ko,” he said. “Kasi nga po, si Boss Toyo po, magtatayo po ng museum. Sabi ko, one day, gusto ko makita ‘yung trophy ko kasama ‘yung mga ibang artista na nand’on.”

When they talked over the phone, they talked about Boss Toyo keeping the trophy.

“‘Yun po kasi ‘yung nagpag-usapan namin sa bahay po and then nung nakapunta na ako kay Boss Toyo,” he said.

From his asking price of P500,000, they eventually settled on P75,000.

Now that the trophy is under Boss Toyo’s property, Jiro said that he can now have it displayed should he want to put it in a museum or sell it to another person.

Jiro also said that he decided to sell the trophy to make extra funds before the New Year.

Their transaction video was posted on Boss Toyo’s YouTube and received different reactions from netizens.

In a statement reported by Pep.ph, Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino member Butch Francisco reacted to Jiro’s decision to sell his trophy saying, “I am happy for him. We’re glad to be of service.”

Butch added that he is not insulted and is glad that it sold for a high price, considering that each trophy only cost P6,000.
