Derrick Monasterio says he’s not gay, expresses dismay on people using gender identity as an insult
Derrick Monasterio sets the record straight: He’s not gay.
In Tuesday’s episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” the Kapuso hunk was asked point-blank if he was gay and he said he wasn't.
Derrick also expressed his disappointment about people using gender identity as an insult.“Mas bothered ako sa fact na — bakit ginagamit nila na pang asar ‘yung pagiging bakla? Eh, wala naman masama dun,” he said.
[I'm bothered by the fact that people use gender identity as an insult. There is nothing wrong about being gay.]
“Siguro, kailangan mas maging open minded na ang mga tao ngayon na, hindi masama, hindi okay ‘pag gagamitin mong pang asar ‘yung pagiging bakla, pagiging mataba, pagiging pangit,” he added. “Kasi there’s no such things eh, illusion lang ‘yun ng mga tao.”
[I think people should be more open-minded. It's not OK to use as an insult being gay, being fat, being ugly. There are not such things.]
Derrick appeared on Fast Talk with girlfriend Elle Villanueva, who admitted to asking Derrick point blank if he was gay. She said she was aware of the gay rumors swirling about Derrick and said it might have been because Derrick was constantly surrounded by members of the LGBT+ community in the showbiz industry.
In the same episode, the couple said they aren't not living together yet but revealed that they do hold sleepovers in each other's houses. According to Derrick, he has plans to live with Elle in the future.
Derrick and Elle came out as a couple in August last year, after months of their no-label relationship.
The two are set to star in the GMA afternoon series, “Makiling,” which tells the story of Amira, played by Elle, who plots her revenge on the people who bullied her. It will premiere on January 8.
