Year in Review: Reconciliations and collaborations in 2023 that made us believe the world is healing

2023 Year in Review: Collaborations, reunions, and reconciliations in showbiz

As we bid farewell to another whirlwind of a year, it's good to look back and reflect on unexpected collaborations, heartwarming reunions, and inspiring reconciliations that made 2023 memorable.

From the historic collaboration of GMA and ABS-CBN in producing “Unbreak My Heart” to celebrities patching things up after misunderstandings, we witnessed relationships developing and healing.

Let's revisit some of the most unforgettable reconciliations that not only made 2023 remarkable but also continue to instill the belief that the world is on a path towards healing.

1. GMA and ABS-CBN collaborate on “Unbreak My Heart”

Two of the country’s biggest networks, GMA and ABS-CBN, kicked off 2023 with a groundbreaking TV collaboration, “Unbreak My Heart.”

The romantic-drama series brought together Jodi Sta. Maria, Joshua Garcia, Richard Yap, and Gabbi Garcia, and even featured scenes shot in Switzerland. “Unbreak My Heart” was aired on GMA and streamed globally on Viu.

The series also acted as a catalyst, enabling artists of one network to make guest appearances on shows on the other network, and vice versa. “It’s the end of rivalry, really. I mean, now we can share artists and talents, and everyone is just given the opportunity to work,” Jodi Sta. Maria said in an interview.

2. It’s Showtime on GTV

Noontime show “It’s Showtime” found a new home at GMA Network’s GTV, premiering on the channel on July 1.

At the contract signing, Anne Curtis and Kim Chui couldn't help but tear up over the once-impossible collaboration, with GMA chairman Atty. Felipe Gozon declaring that “TV war is finally over.”

“At ang talagang makikinabang nito is, of course, ang mga manunuod,” he added.

3. ABS-CBN artists and execs attend GMA Gala; GMA executives attend ABS-CBN Ball

This year’s GMA Gala in July was one for the books as gorgeous celebrities came dressed to the nines for one unforgettable night.

It also cemented the sincere collaboration between ABS-CBN and GMA as executives from both networks were spotted shaking hands and enjoying the night. Tim Yap captured a photo of GMA Network’s chairman Felipe L. Gozon and SVP Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes with ABS-CBN’s President and CEO Carlo L. Katigbak and COO for Broadcast Cory Vidanes.

Vice Ganda also filmed a cute video with Michael V where she called the comedy genius, “idol.”

Fast forward to October, and it was GMA Network's Felipe Gozon, Annette Gozon-Valdes turn to grace the ABS-CBN Ball 2023. On TikTok, ABS-CBN shared the red carpet moment of the two GMA executives.

4. Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion

Back in July, fans were teased about a Sharon-Gabby show, which they confirmed in August. The concert titled “Dear Heart” happened on October 27 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Sharon and Gabby constantly posted updates leading to the concert, including rehearsal videos that sent “kilig” vibes to loyal supporters. One of the show’s highlights is the guesting of their daughter, KC Concepion. In fact, during one rehearsal, KC even surprised her parents which brought Sharon to tears.

5. Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino

In October, long-time friends Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino had a heartwarming reunion in California where Kris has been residing. The Queen of All Media is currently in the United States for treatment related to her autoimmune conditions.

Despite the physical distance, Kris and Boy have remained close friends, dispelling any rumors of a falling out between them.

It was a fitting reunion for the two as it happened before Boy’s birthday on October 29.

6. OG Sang’gres on It’s Showtime

“Encantadia” was a groundbreaking fantasy television series that aired in 2005 and its four leads – Iza Calzado, Karylle, Sunshine Dizon, and Diana Zubiri – left a mark on viewers as Amihan, Alena, Pirena, and Danaya, respectively.

For this year's edition of Magkasikat, the “OG Sang’gres” reunited for an epic performance, wearing costumes inspired by the series. Diana even flew all the way from Australia just to join the performance and Direk Mark Reyes helped in accomplishing the surprise.

7. Billy Crawford and Vice Ganda

Another heartwarming bit during “It’s Showtime” Magpasikat 2023? Vice Ganda confirming that her long-time feud  with Billy Crawford is over. She said they’re okay and Billy’s presence on the show was a gift to the Madlang People.

Billy also took the opportunity to apologize to Vice, the Madlang People, and the rest of the Kapamilyas.

8. Marian Rivera and Heart Evangelista

Eagle-eyed fans noticed when Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera and Kapuso Global Fashion Icon Heart Evangelista followed each other on Instagram in October.

At a fashion event in November, Heart opened up about her renewed friendship with Marian, saying they have always been okay. “Marian and I, we’ve always liked each other," she added. "And it’s a true testament that you know, queens should always be supporting queens,” Heart said.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Nelson Canlas, Marian said her heart is happy and that she’s in a peaceful state.

The two queens even shared a hug and were spotted chating at GMA Network chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon's 84th birthday.

9. Bea Alonzo and Lolit Solis

Bea Alonzo and Lolit Solis finally met in person in November during the birthday of entrepreneur and CEO Rei Anicoche Tan.

The two approached each other and Bea was happy especially since Christmas is a time for love and forgiveness.

Bea admitted that she’s still processing Lolit’s apology but she appreciated the talent manager for taking accountability.

All’s well that ends well as we look forward to 2024!
