Julie Anne San Jose, Queendom share when they feel most like a queen
Julie Anne San Jose, Rita Daniela, Jessica Villarubin, Thea Astley, Mariane Osabel, and Hannah Precillas are true Kapuso birit queens, but they've got more queenly qualities on and off the stage.
In a virtual media conference ahead of their concert "Queendom: Live," the ladies answered when they feel most like a queen.
For Rita, it is whenever she is with her baby boy, Uno.
"Honestly, just by Uno's existence, he makes me a queen," the singer and actress said. "Iba 'yung na-fe-feel ko ngayon now that I'm a mom. Iba 'yung confidence na nabibigay niya sa 'kin."
Rita also said that she does everything to make Uno safe, but that he is her safe space as well.
"He's always in my heart. So yeah, simple as that. Uno makes me a queen," she said.
For Thea, she says "a queen is someone who knows how to listen."
"For me, a queen is someone who knows who she is, may sarili siyang direksyon, may sarili siyang path pero hindi niya nakakalimutan na makinig sa payo ng mga taong nag-ma-matter naman talaga doon sa paligid niya," she said.
And of course, those people are Thea's Queendom sisters. She feels most like a queen when she is in their company.
"Grabe 'yung caliber ng talent, ng personality nitong mga tao na 'to," she said. "Kapag kasama ko sila, parang feeling ko na na-u-uplift din ako."
She added that what sets the group apart would be their close friendship.
"We listen to each other's advice hindi lang sa pagkanta but life in general," Thea said.
Hannah said that to be a queen, it would be when she is able to inspire othes.
"Dun ko talaga nararamdaman na I'm a queen kapag nababasa ko 'yung comments ng mga tao na na-inspire sila sa 'kin, nanghihingi sila ng advice," she said.
Hannah added that whenever she sees her fellow Queendom members learn from her, "'yung moments na 'yun, [pwede] kong sabihin na I'm a queen."
For Mariane, "being a queen is being persistent and optimistic," and said that these are her strengths.
"Inaamin ko naman na hindi talaga ako total performer like Ate Julie or Ate Rita, or kayo palang lahat marunong sumayaw," she said. "Alam ko sa sarili ko na gagaling din ako someday eh like Ate Julie."
Mariane also feels like a queen whenever she performs with the girls.
"Alam naman natin kung ga'no sila ka-powerful and yet being aware na powerful sila, napaka-humble pa rin nila and very reassuring."
For Jessica, being a queen means being a supporter. "We perform as a group so sinasandalan namin each other. And I also feel the support with each other. We help each other, we share ideas every time we perform sa [All-Out Sundays]."
Jessica added that ever since she joined Queendom, she never felt any competition.
"Parang magkakapatid, [tapos] may friendship na nabuo," she said. "Itong grupong 'to, napakatibay. Kapag kasama ka dito, parang you won't feel down to say ang lakas ng mga kasama mo."
Finally, Julie Anne describes a queen as somebody who is the best version of herself.
"She's someone who's not afraid to fail or to fall. She's someone who is willing to take risks. She speaks of love and kindness, especially to herself."
According to Asia's Limitless Star, she feels most like a queen whenever she is with her mom.
"Sa kanya ako palagi kumukha ng strength," she said.
"Queendom: Live" will be held at 8 p.m. on December 2 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
