Winwyn Marquez says she's now in favor of transgender people joining Miss Universe
Winwyn Marquez has had a change of heart regarding her stand on transgender people joining Miss Universe.
In the latest episode of "Updated with Nelson Canlas," the Kapuso star said she used to disagree about trans women joining Miss Universe in the past, but she is now in favor of it.
“I think I have to admit to what I said na mali din 'yun kasi I wasn't really sure pa sa mga nangyayari,” she said.
"When I educated myself sa lahat na, LGBTQIA+ [and] everything, actually I'm okay with it now," she added.
According to the Miss Reina Hispanoamericana 2017, allowing transgenders to join beauty pageants is a way of being inclusive.
"They're women, eh. They're proud women, and [if] they're given that chance to join, then why not, 'di ba?" she said.
In 2018, Winwyn issued a clarification about her views on preferring "natural-born women" in Miss Universe, but she also expressed her support for Miss Universe Spain 2018 Angela Ponce, who is a proud transwoman.
Winwyn said she has nothing against transgender women and that she "loves Spain" for being open to sending Angela Ponce to represent their country. —Hermes Tunac/JCB, GMA Integrated News
