R'Bonney Gabriel says Catriona Gray was her inspiration during Miss Universe

R’Bonney Gabriel turned to a fellow Filipina queen for inspiration when she was training for Miss Universe — of course, it's Catriona Gray!

The reigning Miss Universe penned a short but heartwarming message for Catriona on Instagram.

“Respect is given where respect is due! When I was training for Miss Universe, @catriona_gray was inspiration for me and a great example of a talented, well rounded woman,” R’Bonney said.

The two queens were able to work together in Manila for the cover of Vogue Philippines’ October issue.

“It was incredible to work alongside her and such a great team,” R’Bonney said.

Catriona, Miss Universe 2018, saw the post and left a comment.

“Aw thanks Queen @rbonneynola !! So proud of your journey...just getting started! Can't wait to see what you conquer next!!” Catriona said.

R’Bonney was crowned Miss Universe in January and is the first Filipino-American queen to have the title. Aside from being a beauty queen, she is also a sustainable fashion designer.

For the upcoming Miss Universe 2023 pageant this November, the Philippines’ representative is Michelle Dee.

She has arrived in Los Angeles before heading to El Salvador for the pageant.
