Angel Guardian promises Iza Calzado that she will take care of Deia's name: 'I won't disappoint you'
As Angel Guardian gears up for the upcoming series “Sang'gre: Encantadia Chronicles," she makes a special vow to Iza Calzado.
The Kapuso actress will be playing Deia, the keeper of the Brilyante ng Hangin. The character’s name is from Iza Calzado’s nine-month-old daughter, Deia Amihan.
“Sang’gre” and “Encantadia” director Mark Reyes revealed that he asked permission from Iza, the original Amihan, to use her daughter’s name and she obliged.
With this, Angel made sure to promise Iza that she will honor and take care of her baby’s name.
Angel shared on Instagram that she actually worked with Iza in the horror films “White House” and “Shake, Rattle & Roll Extreme.”
When Angel learned that she got cast as Sang’gre Deia, they were able to see each other during taping.
“Nilakasan ko ang loob ko and asked her, I found out they’d asked for her permission to use her daughter’s name, Deia. We got emotional, I saw how special Deia is to Ms. Iza. It made me realise how lucky I am to be carrying such a deeply special name,” Angel said.
“We talked and hugged a lot, I felt as if I was on cloud nine and dreaming, so she told me to take a picture and this was it. Haha,” she added.
Angel also shared a text message from Iza after the “Sang’gre” cast reveal.
“Hello, anak! I saw online that they have already announced the characters for [‘Sang’gre’] and your participation in it,” Iza said. “I wish you all the best as you embark on this journey of playing/being Deia. May it bring you the break you so deserve!”
Iza added, “Alagaan mo si Deia ha. Hehe! Love you!”
Angel then thanked her “forever favorite Amihan” for a beautiful name, and “sa pagpayag na gamitin ang pangalan ng pinaka espesyal na tao sa buhay mo—your beautiful baby, Deia Amihan.”
She also said that she is thankful they were able to talk and receive Iza’s blessing.
“Thank you for being you, a very warm and wonderful person. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, compassion and words of encouragement to me with portraying this role,” Angel said.
“I know how special Deia is to you, and I want to say it again.. I won’t disappoint you. I’ll take good care of Deia and carry this name with kindness, power and grace,” she added.
Iza commented on Angel’s post, “Thank you for honoring Deia.”
“You are kind, sincere and, from the little time we spent talking about life, level headed. May these traits keep you grounded as you fly high. I am rooting for you! God be with you every step of the way," she added. “Avisala, Sang’gre Deia! Alagaan mo ang brilyante natin.”
Completing the roster of new Sang’gres include Bianca Umali as Terra, the new keeper of the Brilyante ng Lupa; Faith Da Silva as Flamarra, keeper of the Brilyante ng Apoy; and Kelvin Miranda as Adamus, the new protector of the Brilyante ng Tubig.
Direk Mark said last June that production for “Sang’gre” will start soon, with the cast now training for their fight scenes.
