Direk Mark Reyes shares how he asked permission from Iza Calzado to use the name 'Deia' in 'Sang'gre'
Avisala, Encantadiks!
It appears that production for “Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre” is gearing up.
Following the announcement of Bianca Umali taking on the role of “Terra,” the new keeper of the Brilyante ng Lupa, the remaining Sang’gres were formally introduced during a special reveal on "24 Oras" last Friday, October 27.
Completing the new generation of Sang’gres are Faith Da Silva as “Flamarra,” keeper of the Brilyante ng Apoy; Kelvin Miranda as “Adamus,” the new protector of the Brilyante ng Tubig; and Angel Guardian as “Deia,” the keeper of the Brilyante ng Hangin.
As a fun fact, it was revealed that Angel’s character’s name, “Deia,” draws inspiration from Iza Calzado’s nine-month-old daughter, Deia Amihan.
Iza previously portrayed “Amihan,” the original guardian of the Brilyante ng Hangin, in the 2005 version of “Encantadia.”
In an Instagram post on Sunday, director Mark Reyes shared how he asked permission from Iza to use the name Deia in the new Sang’gre series.
“Hello Izadora. For the new series Sanggre, Suzette, Ms. Redgyn and I are wondering if you will if we call Amihan’s daughter ‘Deia?’”
Iza can’t help but feel honored by the director’s request replying, “Basta Deia has a good heart and good things happen to her then super good with us. Thank you so much for thinking of Deia and asking for permission even if we don’t own that name.”
In his post's caption, Direk Mark clarified that Deia is not Amihan’s daughter but rather the chosen one to care for the “wind gem.” He also highlighted the “serendipitous” connection between Angel and Iza.
In a separate post, Angel shared that the first time she worked with Iza was for the horror movie, “White House.” She also received a message from Iza congratulating her on being cast as Deia.
We're eagerly anticipating “Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre” and can't wait to see Terra, Flamarra, Adamus, and Deia in action!
