Lexi Gonzales reveals dream of becoming a newscaster

Lexi Gonzales shines as an actress, but she recently revealed that the original dream was to become a newscaster.

In an interview on "Surprise Guest With Pia Arcangel," the "Underage" star said that when she was little, she wanted to become a "newscaster and then singer on the side."

"Nung bata ako, pinapakanta nila ako lagi sa school, pero I never thought na I'd be an artista, an actor, parang bigla na lang po siyang dumating sa buhay ko," she said.

Lexi said that she watched all the news shows of GMA, from “Imbestigador” to “24 Oras,” and even Pia Arcangel’s “Art Angel.”

“Sabi ko, ano kayang feeling ng ganitong trabaho mo,” Lexi said. “And bukod pa doon, you raise an entire generation eh.”

“So sabi ko, ang inspiring nitong trabaho na ito," she added. "Until now, I want to be a newscaster someday, pero syempre, mag-aaral muna ako and really go through a lot of challenges and training muna.”

Lexi's entrance to showbiz wasn't easy, especially since she was barred from auditioning at first.

"Kasi 16 pa lang ako, so hindi nila ako pinapasok sa audition, sinalang nila ako sa gate, so kahit na anong pagmamakaawa ko, hindi talaga," she said. "And then nung na scout na po ako, saka niya ako pinapadala sa ibang audition pero its not with GMA, so medyo may onting frustration pa din ako."

For her, GMA was the top choice. Aside from the news shows, Lexi was also a fan of dramas like "Marimar."

Finally, she was able to enter GMA's talent competition "Starstruck."

"I really wanted to get into GMA pero hindi ako nakapasok agad sa GMA e, I went through a lot of trials pa," she said. "But then 2019, thank God I was able to get into 'Starstruck,' and then 2020, I was able to sign na rin ng contract with Sparkle and GMA, so ayun."

Aside from "Underage," Lexi also recently starred in the hit show "Running Man Philippines." —JCB, GMA Integrated News
