"Five Breakups and a Romance" is set to hit cinemas on October 18 and at the world premiere of its trailer Wednesday, Alden Richards shared why the movie is so important to him.

Pertaining to co-lead Julia Montes and movie director Irene Villamor, the Kapuso heart throb said "we were all not in a good place in our lives [when the chance to do the movie came]."

"The story has really done something in our lives," he said.

"It's changed us and made us stronger. First day pa lang, sa script reading," Alden said.

When asked what difficulty he went through, Asia's Multimedia Star declined to go into specifics, saying instead that it was "very personal."

"You know, sometimes you think you're strong, na kaya mo mag-isa," Alden continued, offering a sneak peek to what he went through.

"But heart breaks can come from different aspects of your life — nawalan ka ng trabaho, namatay aso mo, may goal kang hindi na-achieve," he explained, adding heart breaks don't really need to be romantic in nature.

"What I can say is how much this good this movie has done to me," Alden said.

"Five Breaks and a Romance" is Alden's return to cinema following 2019's massively successful "Hello, Love Goodbye."

According to the star it took him four long years to come back to film because "nahirapan talaga ako mag-accept ng projects" after his film with Kathryn Bernardo "broke records."

But like Julia, it was hard not to accept "Five Breakups and a Romance."

"My best film of the year," he said at the beginning of the media con. "Possibly one of my best so far as an actor. Ito yung ikukuwento ko sa mga tao. It really made an impact in my life."

At the trailer premiere, both Alden and Julia turned emotional, talking about the project and the connection they made while working on the film.

"Itong film na to, more than a project talaga siya," she said. "And tumagos siya sa puso namin."

Julia said it was the type of project that had her nodding yes without even finishing the script.

Written and directed by Irene Villamor, "Five Break-Ups and a Romance" first made headlines last April when news broke that Alden and Julia would headline their first film together. —  LA, GMA Integrated News
