GMA News Online bags award for Best Statistical Reporting in Online Media given by Philippine Statistics Authority

GNO award

GMA News Online bagged the award for Best Statistical Reporting in Online Media given by Philippine Statistics Authority at the National Statistics Month (NSM) Media Awards on Monday.

GMA News Online was recognized for the story "NEDA: P279 daily food need only a metric in determining poverty," which clarified that the controversial monthly amount of P8,379 given by the National Economic and Development Authority was not a measure of a comfortable life and was simply based on nutritionists’ estimates to meet the basic requirements.

Written by business reporter Ted Cordero, the report also explained poverty incidence, subsistence incidence, among a few others.

According to Philippine Statistics Authority, the story won “for the accurate, timely, and significant use of statistics exemplifying wide reach and impact through public service in pursuit of delivering evidence-based reports.”

Cordero received the award in behalf of GMA News Online at the ceremony held in The Manila Hotel, Ermita, Manila.

Other winners are Cai Ordinario, Business Mirror for Best Statistical Reporting in Print Media; Shyla Francisco, TV 5  for Best Statistical Reporting in TV Broadcast Media, and Michael Delizo, ABS-CBN News  for Best Media Advocate for Statistics.

This is a back-to-back win for Cordero and GMA News Online. Congratulations!
