Isabelle Daza sets up fundraiser for helper allegedly abused by employers in Mindoro

Isabelle Daza has utilized her platform to help Elvie Vergara, a 44-year-old helper who has gone blind and acquired numerous scars all over her body after she was allegedly abused by her employers in Mindoro.

The actress opened a GoGetFunding page to raise funds for Elvie.

Isabelle said that Elvie is going to have an operation in one eye in hopes of recovering her sight, but "the outcome is unsure."

“Her compensation from her alleged abusive employers have been withheld, so the Government [is now trying to help her get it back]," she wrote. "However this is a tedious process with a lot of paperwork."

“I am raising funds for her to be able to live her life free from this abuse without having to worry about what she will eat and will she have enough money to live," she added.

Isabelle also vowed that she would make sure Elvie received the donations personally, "and not through anyone or any org."

As of this writing, she has already raised over P730,000 from 589 donors, exceeding the P300,000 goal.

In a recent episode of "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho," Elvie alleged that the abuse started in 2020.

"'Yung mata po binugbog din po. Inuuntog-untog ako sa CR. 'Yun pong ginagawa nila akong parang turumpo. 'Yung pinaikot-ikot po at tinatadyakan, kung saan-saan parteng katawan ko. Pebrero 2020, 2021, 2022. Sunud-sunod na po. Talagang gigil na gigil sila sa akin,” she said.

Elvie was able to escape her former employers with the help of a fellow helper who was headed home to Mindoro.

She and her family have filed a case against the employers.

However, in their initial statement, the employers denied Elvie's allegations and claimed that she stole P2,000 and P12,000 from them.

They said that she got blinded after being involved in a fight with their previous worker.

On September 5, the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights sought the issuance of an arrest warrant against a family member of the employers.

The Senate committee also previously issued a subpoena against the family to attend the probe.
