Mike Enriquez honored at public wake

Mike Enriquez’s public wake kicked off on Saturday morning.

Supporters began arriving at the Christ The King Parish, Greenmeadows in Quezon City at 8:30 a.m. The wake will end at 3 p.m.

Those unable to physically attend may watch the livestream on the GMA News YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Guests are also encouraged to donate to the GMA Kapuso Foundation instead of giving flowers.

Enriquez passed away on Tuesday at the age of 71. The GMA Network pillar entered the broadcasting industry in 1969, then became part of the network in 1995. He served as a journalist for 54 years.

Enriquez took a medical leave in December 2021 to undergo a kidney transplant and returned to work in time for the 2022 election coverage.

He is best known for being an anchor on "24 Oras" and "Imbestigador" and the DZBB programs "Super Balita sa Umaga" and "Saksi sa Dobol B."

Fellow "24 Oras" anchors Mel Tiangco and Vicky Morales turned emotional as they reported his death.

At his wake, GMA Network Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon gave a eulogy about how much of a good person Mike was. His colleagues in broadcasting also gave touching tributes.

Enriquez’s supporters have also made artworks to pay tribute to him. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
